Growing up in a mainstream hearing school was not for the faint of heart.... I had to learn to deal with different schools that did not understand deafness and of those who are Mentally and Physically challenged. We are dealt with by society that being bullied was an OK thing and that others will just have to deal with it , hoping for the best for those" they will outgrow it" sort of idea that has been passed on for years. It's time for a change not only for the deaf community but for the others that have had similar experiences. The past has already gone and the present is now... we are now in that stage where there is more awareness and society is finally learning of acceptance of others being born different. * not normal * in lighter terms... The future all depends on our generation and how much we need to teach our children the right way to treat human beings like human beings! Unfortunately, we are not there yet... We are far from it... A solution starts at the home with parents teaching their children how to treat others as they would like to be treated. Am I wrong?! I hope in the future that our children will pass on the torch of kindness, understanding, forgiveness, righteousness, and be of more loving , caring nurture human beings we all deserves to be treated as such. Teach kindness... Kindness goes a long way!

I think that hoping for this is not realistic. Human nature cannot be undone by instruction and learning. You can train a lion to sit on a stand in a circus, but it will always remain a lion. And given the right circumstances it might turn around and kill it's trainer.

@ilsa, I understand where you are coming from... I know it is not realistic, but it has to start somewhere. I mean if a child can learn how to behave right by being taught to do what is right.... and done right by others, then we can learn to unlearn and do things the right way. Does that even make sense?
We are not a loss cause , we can tame a lion however, even a lion has its moments and loses control, much like humans, we are humans with flaws, no doubt, but it is not inevitable. We can do better, we just have to try and do better. It has to start somewhere.
