Do you know all of the States STAR Cities? Could you name them all?
Here is something in history they did not teach in your class , they did not teach in my class either and they should since it is part of history.
A question that comes to mind.... During what time period was ASL forbidden in schools?
In the 1800s, schools banned sign language in favor of teaching deaf students to speak, read, and write in English like “normal” people. Inventor and BU professor Alexander Graham Bell, whose wife and mother were deaf, was one of those who favored suppressing the use of sign language.
In the deaf community we do not agree with AGB and his methods. Sign Language is a form of a language that most people do not understand, but little bit by little , the able-bodied hearing people are realizing that ASL is a language and it is the only way for the deaf and hard of hearing to communicate for most.
Do you know sign language if so, how did you learn and for how long?
